        Dear students, probably you know the difference between History and Story, I think this song and video might help you discover some American historical facts  and at the same time you can make a brief comment on the story told in the song.

There has been a bit of controversy about a line in the lyrics (that could come from  some terrible.... )

March 6th: WORLD BOOK DAY. In Spain 23th April

Today the book day is celebrated around the world.
I know that you have your favourite, I have also mine.

One of my favourite books  when I was your age was Pappa Pellerins Dotter.

Of Course I read it in Spanish, I was only 12, but since that moment onwards I can't remember myself without a book nearby.

It tells the story of a girl, Loella, who everyone calls 'Loopy Loella',she  is a strange child, basically bringing herself up in the woods, with two brothers to look after solely by herself. An old scarecrow is all she has to protect her, and 'scarepeople' away. She is wild and yet very capable, but when she is sent to a Home, she is bewildered with the town, not understanding how to live. It was all so different from the woods. She imagines a lot about her father, and creates many false illusions and dreams. In these dreams she heroically save her father from drowning, or burning to death, or from dying in a terrible car accident. When she finally gets back to the life in the woods that she knows, and meets...well, guess who?

CHRISTMAS TIME

M & M Cookies

Christmas  is near and you'll probably have to give lots of presents to your relatives.
As everybody like eating, this recipe will save the day for you.
It's easy and not very expensive. Add a beautiful envelope and a card, and  make sure that everybody know they are homemade and healthy.

1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups M&Ms
Cream sugars, eggs, vanilla, and shortening. Set aside. Mix dry ingredients. Combine dry ingredients with creamed mixture. Add M & Ms and stir until evenly distributed. OR you may choose to not add M & Ms to mixture, but decorate tops of cookies with them instead. Make happy faces or designs. This is a real "hands on" event!
Bake at 375 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes.

In 1817, New York became the first of several states to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving holiday; each celebrated it on a different day, however, and the American South remained largely unfamiliar with the tradition.
 In 1827, the noted magazine editor and prolific writer Sarah Josepha Hale—author, among countless other things, of the nursery rhyme “Mary Had a Little Lamb”—launched a campaign to establish Thanksgiving as a national holiday. For 36 years, she published numerous editorials and sent scores of letters to governors, senators, presidents and other politicians.

Abraham Lincoln finally heeded her request in 1863, at the height of the Civil War, in a proclamation entreating all Americans to ask God to “commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife” and to “heal the wounds of the nation.”

He scheduled Thanksgiving for the final Thursday in November, and it was celebrated on that day every year until 1939, when Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday up a week in an attempt to spur retail sales during the Great Depression.
 Roosevelt’s plan, known derisively as Franksgiving, was met with passionate opposition, and in 1941 the president reluctantly signed a bill making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November.
